WBEZ’s Steve Edwards will be hosting a new afternoon talk show in the near future. He joined Eight Forty-Eight‘s Tony Sarabia to talk about his interview with Kantor.

In a preview of Steve Edwards’ upcoming afternoon show, New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor joined Edwards to talk about her new, much-buzzed-about book, The Obamas.

In the interview Kantor reveals that she was inspired by Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, No Ordinary Time. She notes that Kearns Goodwin treated the First Lady as an equal to the President.

She notes that though the White House appears glamorous, many everyday activities are especially difficult for the First Family. Even visiting their home in Chicago poses problems. Kantor shares an anecdote about how Navy stewards had to go ahead of the Obamas on their first visit home to take care of food for the weekend.
