Known for catchy jingles, carpet giant Empire buys rival Luna

Two well-known Chicago flooring supply stores will now be under one organization. Empire Today LLC., finalized a deal to buy out rival Luna last week.

In a statement from a spokesperson for Empire, no Luna employees are expected to lose their jobs. The statement also says Luna is expected to keep its brand name, along with its commercial jingle.The statement also says Luna’s retail stores will keep their names.

Luna provides carpet and flooring installation services in the Chicago, Milwaukee, Baltimore and Boston areas.

Empire Today, which is commonly known as Empire Carpet, was founded in 1959, according to the company’s website.  That is one year after Luna, which was founded in 1958.

According to the company’s site, “Empire provides services to residential and business customers with a wide selection of products suitable for homes, small businesses, organizations and commercial applications.” 

More terms of the buyout were not immediately available.
