Leaving her career as a soprano and opera stage director on the backburner, in recent years Marina Bollaín has focused on musical theater for children with the help of her partner Pablo Navarro. Marina is behind the development and production of “La Gallina Submarina,” a musical tale that tells the story of Marcelina, a poor hen who doesn’t know how to dive but who lives in a pond filled with swans, frogs, and ducks. Desperate to learn how to get beneath the water, she begins a long journey in search of a crab who can teach her how to swim.

Marina Bollaín narrates the show and also performs as soprano and player of castanets, while Pablo Navarro plays the double bass, guitar and percussion. Together they turn the tale of Marcelina into a beautiful musical story.

This event is presented in Spanish.

Recorded Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago.
