An ordinance introduced by Ald. Danny Solis at Wednesday’s City Council meeting proposed the decriminalization of small amounts marijuana. Under the proposal, people caught with 10 grams or less of the green stuff would not be arrested but would get a ticket for $200. Mayor Emanuel did not back the ordinance but said he will ask the Chicago Police Department to look at it further. When it comes to pot, there are many different issues at play: Is it a criminal matter? A public health issue? Should Chicago decriminalize or even legalize marijuana?
