This week Eight Forty-Eight heard about the real-life challenges facing workers in the Great Lakes region as part of the Front and Center series. Friday was listeners’ chance to share how they were doing in this economy. Eight Forty-Eight asked listeners to share their experiences, whether they faced challenges finding work or making a career change.

Three experts in the field took calls, e-mails and tweets to help steer listeners toward resources or offer advice: Carrie Thomas is the associate director of the Chicago Jobs Council, Ray Bentley is the board liaison of the Cook County Workforce Investment Board and Elba Aranda-Suh is the director of the National Latino Education Institute.
