Listeners shared thoughts on what they think Eight Forty-Eight got wrong - and what they like, too.

Last month, Eight Forty-Eight headed to WBEZ’s Humboldt Park bureau for a live remote broadcast, the Dueling Critics joined and shared their brief assessment of the West Side theater scene. The segment garnered heated response from theater goers.

Maritza Nazario wrote:

As a “teatrista”  in Chicago, for the last 30 years I am profoundly offended by your comments on this particular segment. Not only [are] there numerous theater performers, writers, directors, stage designers, etc. living in the West Side, but many of these artists are doing theater in the community and have been doing it for many years. Perhaps one difference from all the productions that you are accustomed to see is that we create theater for the community, we do not care much if critics attend or not or if our productions are funded with enough money to have several runs.

Last week, Eight Forty-Eight wrapped the first half of the series Front and Center with listeners’ personal stories of the Great Lakes. Listeners shared what the water means to them.

Linda e-mailed:

I listen almost every day to Eight Forty-Eight, and want to say that today’s show was the best I have heard. It was so personal to so many listeners who love the lake, live near it and treasure it. Thank you so much for the show and the end, with the folk singer and the Lady Elgin song, could not have ended it better.
