Chicago was the first American city to broadcast Q… and now, the show is coming to you. Q is crossing the Canadian border for a LIVE show and broadcast in Chicago Thursday, June 16th.  

We’ll have live music, comedy and vibrant Chicago cultural figures.

Heard on WBEZ Monday -Thursday at 8pm, Q is an energetic daily arts, culture and entertainment magazine that takes you on a smart and surprising ride, interviewing personalities and tackling the cultural issues that matter.

Hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, with his trademark wit and spontaneity, Q covers pop culture and high arts alike with forays into the most provocative and compelling cultural trends. This unique live event is co-produced between CBC and WBEZ and will be simulcast live on WBEZ

Jian Ghomeshi is an award-winning broadcaster, writer, musician and producer. He is the host and co-creator of the national daily talk program, Q, on CBC Radio One and bold TV. Since its inception in 2007, Q has garnered the largest audience of any cultural affairs program in Canada and has become the highest-rated show in its morning time slot in CBC history.

Mixing insight and opinion with unscripted wit, Jian shifts seamlessly from editorial essays to moderating debates on the air. He has interviewed an array of prominent international figures from prime ministers to sports stars and cultural icons.  His feature interview subjects on Q have included Woody Allen, Van Morrison, Salman Rushdie, Barbara Walters, Tom Waits, William Shatner, Jay-Z, Al Gore, Margaret Atwood and - in a television world-exclusive — Leonard Cohen.

Born in London, England, of Iranian descent, Jian lives in Toronto, where he enjoys supporting a losing hockey team and eating pistachios.

This special live-audience show will be featuring SNL star Seth Meyers, documentary filmmaker Steve James on his new doc “The Interrupters”, Scottish-American author Irvine Welsh, legal thriller writer Scott Turow and more special guests to be announced!

- Actor and comedian Seth Meyers is a head writer and star of Saturday Night Live. As the host of SNL’s Weekend Update, Meyers comments on the newsmakers and breakers in his signature comedy style each week. Outside his decade-long role on SNL, Meyers has appeared in films and created his own web series. Earlier this year, he presented the keynote address at the 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner.

- Chicago blues master Lonnie Brooks has been a key player in the blues music scene for more than a half century. At 77-years-old, he continues to tour regularly with a sound The New York Times describes as “An explosive mixture of blues, rock ‘n’ roll, South Louisiana swamp pop and gritty Southern soul music.” Last year, he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.

- Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Steve James is the respected Chicago director behind several documentaries including the highly acclaimed Hoop Dreams and Stevie. His new film The Interrupters follows three violence interrupters on the streets of Chicago trying to keep their communities safe. After premiering at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, “The Interrupters” quickly became an early favourite for next year’s Academy Award for Best Documentary.

- Award-winning Chicago attorney and writer Scott Turow is the best-selling author behind such books as Presumed Innocent, The Burden of Proof and Personal Injuries. His books have sold more than 25 million copies around the globe, and been adapted for film and television. His non-fiction writing has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, Vanity Fair and The Atlantic. He published his ninth and latest novel, Innocent, in 2010.

- Scotland-born contemporary author Irvine Welsh is the force behind such works as Trainspotting, Ecstasy, Glue and Porno. He commonly explores subjects of sex, drugs and violence in his writing, and his work has been adapted for both stage and screen. He’s currently working on the book Skagboys, a prequel to his massively popular debut novel Trainspotting. A film adaptation of his book Ecstasy is currently in production.
