During the 11-month uprising in Syria, the city of Homs has been a focal point for both protesters and government forces. Earlier this month, a UN Security Council resolution that called for President Bashar al-Assad to step aside was rejected by Russia and China. Seemingly emboldened by their support, Assad’s regime has intensified its military efforts, especially in Homs. The government’s siege, which is going on its tenth day, has mostly sealed off the city. Multiple reports point to a growing humanitarian crisis. Note: Hanna is using a psuedonym to protect family back in Syria.
