Lockport man charged with killing Chicago police officer

Cook County prosecutors are charging a man in the shooting death of an off-duty Chicago police officer last year.

The police say 24-year-old Antwon Carter, from southwest suburban Lockport, faces an array of charges related to the shooting death of Officer Michael Bailey a year ago. Prosecutors are charging Carter with first degree murder, one county of murder - forcible felony and attempted armed robbery.

Carter has been in prison for violating his parole. Last July, Carter was on parole for aggravated battery to another police officer when prosecutors say he shot Bailey.

Bailey was close to retiring when he was killed as he washed his car in his driveway. He had just finished his shift guarding then-Mayor Richard Daley's home. At the time, Daley praised Bailey for his dedication to his job.
