Local conservative Tom Roeser was long opposed to civil unions. In fact the columnist and WLS weekend host praised Cardinal George for his opposition to this legislation. Roeser spent 17 years as weekend host. He died this Sunday, May 29, about two weeks after retiring from his show.

Roeser spent decades challenging the status quo and an entire career ruffling the feathers of his liberal counterparts and Republican comrades. Even his dear friend and contemporary Chris Robling has some Roeser-inflicted battle wounds. They visited each other on their respective radio programs—Chris was a host at WBEZ. They also worked together on the boards of The City Club and The Haymarket Center.

Robling joined Alison Cuddy to talk about the man Sen. Mark Kirk described as “Mr. Conservative Republican” in Illinois.
