Looptopia: Chicago Through Words and Music
Looptopia: Chicago Through Words and Music
Writers and poets from the Neighborhood Writing Alliance perform their original works about the city of Chicago. The pieces celebrate and critique Chicago and demonstrate the ways in which individual circumstances connect to broader issues such as economic disparities, transportation, employment, housing, and civic engagement.
Participating writers include: Donna Kiser (NWA intern, workshop leader at Albany Park Community Center and St. Leonard’s Workshops), Stephan Urbanski (Bezazian Branch Library Workshop), Evelyn Johnson (Southwest Women Working Together, West Englewood Workshop), CJ Martello (Bezazian Branch Library Workshop), Jonathan Marsch (San Lucas Church, Humboldt Park Workshop), Hattoe Ballew (Mabel Manning Branch Library Workshop), Charlie Clements (Mabel Manning Branch Library Workshop), Sharon Warner (Hall Branch Library Workshop), Arthur Holland (King Branch Library Workshop), and Jean Swanagan (King Branch Library Workshop).
Readings are accompanied by the live world and jazz music of the Ways and Means Trio. Recorded as part of Looptopia, America’s first dusk ‘til dawn cultural event. Please note: This reading contains sexually explicit language.
Recorded Friday, May 11, 2007 at Chicago Temple.
