A Chicago man wants to bring former Police Lieutenant Jon Burge back into the courtroom. Melvin Jones claims Burge tortured him and 134 other black men into confessing to crimes they didn’t commit.

“I’m not an angel,” Jones said, “You know I’ve did wrong in my life but the stuff that he done to me, I feel it was unspeakable.”

Burge is currently serving a 54 month prison sentence for lying about torturing suspects. Jones testified during that trial. Jones’s lawyers claim Burge was part of a greater cover-up that continues in the city to this day.

Chicago Attorney Richard Beuke will represent Burge. He said the class action suit is “ridiculous” and that Jones is in it for the money.

Jones is also suing former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley who he claims was complicit.
