Luke Sienkowski is known to freaks, geeks and comedy fans as The Great Luke Ski. He mines the genre made famous by the likes of Weird Al Yankovic and Dr. Demento – parody songs. But his target audience is a bit narrower. With songs that spoof gaming and sci-fi fanatics, Luke Ski is going for the geeks. He’s recorded several albums over the past decade and a half. And he’s had a number of hits on the epicenter of funny songs, the formerly syndicated weekly radio program hosted by his hero, Dr. Demento.

Luke Ski performs Thursday night as part of The Return of the Geek at “Words That Kill” – a local comedy and poetry series at Creative Lounge in Wicker Park. He joins an all-geek line-up including his co-headliners The Former Fat Boys, a geekified art exhibit, a nerdcore DJ and more! Luke Ski will also perform in the suburbs this coming weekend at the DucKon sci-fi convention in Schaumburg. But before that, he’s came to Eight Forty-Eight for a conversation and a taste of his music.
