The sour economy has apparently claimed another victim. May Street Market, 1132 W. Grand Ave., will close its doors for good tomorrow, due to financial struggles.
“Why suffer and make our staff suffer?” said General Manager Hanid Benna, who blames the failing economy for the restaurant’s current situation. “We’ve done a great job for five years, but we can only do so much.”
The restaurant had good reviews and a pretty decent following, emphasizing seasonal produce and a farm-to-table ethos. It didn’t help that there was another restaurant in Pilsen - May St. Cafe - but the absence of the Grand Avenue restaurant will certainly help clear things up for the one remaining “May St.” business.
