Café Society Do-It-Yourself Toolkit celebrated its official launch with special guest Laura Flanders of GRITtv.

Laura Flanders, a bestselling author and broadcaster, is also founding director of the Women’s Desk at the media watch group, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting.  Flanders discussed the changing political landscape and the role of media in fostering democracy with Barbara Ransby, Associate Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies, African-American Studies, and History, and Director of the Gender and Women Studies Program at University of Illinois at Chicago.

This event was co-sponsored by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and The Public Square, a project of the Illinois Humanities Council.

Recorded Monday, September 21, 2009 at Chicago Cultural Center.
