Martin Creed, winner of the 2001 Turner Prize and one of the U.K.’s leading artists, reevaluates the status of art with a generous dose of wit. As an introduction to his year-long project at the MCA, Martin Creed Plays Chicago, Creed brings his multifaceted practice to a Chicago audience. From his work with humble, readymade materials to his ambitious public sculptures and his rock band, Creed demonstrates how his ideas circulate through the variety of media he engages in his art. Just as his artworks refuse conventionality, so does Creed’s artist talk. This is a unique early opportunity to experience the artist as he combines talking, choreography, and music in this unpredictable performance.

Joining Creed is Amanda McAliste, who grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and began her dance training at The School of Nashville Ballet. She received her B.A. in dance from Columbia College Chicago, has performed in New York and across the world, and performs professionally with The Seldoms Dance Company in Chicago.
