Live Lit (n): A fast-growing genre of live performance that involves a microphone, a story and an audience, typically done in a bar or bookstore for very little money.
Chicago’s Live Lit scene is a rapidly growing community of people who love to tell stories. The old cliché that “stories have been around since the cavemen” is true, but this bare-bones approach to getting together to exchange and listen to stories has caught steam of late. On any given night in Chicago, you can find a place to test out your work as a performer, or catch a collection of stories as an audience member.
WBEZ wants to offer you a chance to experience this new art “movement” before it becomes much bigger!
On September 17th, WBEZ members will get a backstage pass into the world of Live Lit with our WBEZ Member Meet-up: Live Lit Edition at the historic FitzGerald’s Nightclub in Berwyn. Join host Don Hall and the producers/storytellers from The Moth, This Much is True, Story Club, Write Club, Stoop Style Stories, Here’s the Story, 2nd Story and Guts & Glory. Participants will join each other for a hybrid performance/discussion where our members will get a chance to hear about these individual storytelling nights from the people who made them and hear stories interspersed throughout.
