Mexican-based Grupo Bimbo expands American reach with Sara Lee purchase
It doesn’t seem right to call Sara Lee a Bimbo but that’s exactly what the company will become next year.
Grupo Bimbo Tuesday agreed to buy the North American fresh bakery unit of Sara Lee, based in Downer’s Grove. This is not the Mexican company’s first foray into the American market: Bimbo makes Entenmann’s cakes and Thomas' English Muffins.

Alison Cuddy spoke to Eight Forty-Eight business contributor David Greising. Greising is also a reporter for the Chicago News Cooperative.
