Mexican Wrestling Macbeth; Zoo Studios, 4001 N. Ravenswood, Suite 205; Saturday July 14 thru July 28; 10:30 p.m.; $15

The Mammals, a Chicago-based theater company, lives up to its desire to tell stories “in all sorts of mediums.” This weekend they present an unusual take on the bard’s classic play: “What happens when Mexico’s favorite lady luchadores have to fight it out over the coveted role of Lady Macbeth!!!” they ask. The answer, apparently, is “mayhem, mystery and Aztec Mummies.”

The Mummy and the Revolution; The Historic Chicago Temple Building, 77 W. Washington; Friday and Saturday 8 p.m., Sunday 2 p.m. (Saturday shows SOLD OUT); $5

According to their website, this political farce by playwright Yussef El Guindi is “Abbott and Costello meets the Arab Spring.”

“An Egyptian revolutionary, an American collector of antiquities, and a reanimated mummy” star in a play that, in the words of sponsor Silk Road Rising, reminds audiences that the “ ‘new’ Middle East is never too far from the same old same old.”

This staged reading of the play is followed by a Q & A with the author.
