The national debate over immigration reform touches home every day on farms in Northwest Indiana.

There are 1,900 farms in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties. Most are family-owned.

Each growing season, farm owners hire workers who’ve traveled from Mexico and other places to pick strawberries, gather soy beans and harvest corn. Their lives directly affect Indiana’s agriculture industry.
