Migrant Workers on the Farm

The national debate over immigration reform touches home every day on farms in Northwest Indiana.

There are 1,900 farms in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties. Most are family-owned.

Each growing season, farm owners hire workers who've traveled from Mexico and other places to pick strawberries, gather soy beans and harvest corn. Their lives directly affect Indiana's agriculture industry.
