Inner City Entertainment, also known as the ICE theater chain, will officially re-open one of its theaters in Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood. The theater closed about four years ago. ICE has been in business almost for fifteen years now. The ambition of its owners is to provide entertainment – and jobs – to largely minority communities.
To help them kick off the re-opening, they’ve invited Lawndale native Robert Townsend. On Friday, April 22, the actor and filmmaker will screen his 1991 film The Five Heartbeats.
ICE co-owners Alisa and Donzell Starks joined Eight Forty-Eight to talk about the movie theater business.
