Mission #94: The Great Perhaps

“I go to seek a Great Perhaps” were the last dying words of French writer Rabelais, uttered a few years back in the 16th century. A bit more recently, these words also were the anchor and refrain of the novel Looking for Alaska by John Green, who happens to be one of the absolute greatest writers of the 21st century.

So when you’re done googling John Green and Looking for Alaska and The Great Perhaps, let’s talk about this week’s mission.

Mission #94 is about sharing our own Great Perhaps.

Whether it’s something tangible or intangible, specific or vague, longterm or immediate, lingering or looming, wee or grand, each of us is walking around with a dream - a Great Perhaps - in our pocket.

So now I ask you: what is your Great Perhaps?  Will you share it in the comment section? If, perhaps, this is the very first time you’ve articulated your Great Perhaps, well, that is especially great.

And I shall share mine.

It’s something I’ve been living with, working on, tending to, and tinkering/thinkering with for three years; I’m trying to lift and place it in the world exactly a month from now.

It is The Beckoning of Lovely 11/11/11, and it has two distinct - though connected - wings:

1. My final return to Millennium Park on 11/11/11 at 11:11 am, for those of you in or near Chicago (or keen on traveling).  It’s a Friday and it also happens to be Veteran’s Day, so if you have the day off, I hope you will think about joining me in this grand finale moment.  The videos showing what happened on 8/08/08, 9/09/09 and 10/10/10 are all below.  Having members of the Mission Amy KR community there means so much.

2. The release of (cue drumroll!) The Beckoning of Lovely feature-length film.  It will be made globally available for viewing via YouTube from 11/11/11 on.  The film is rooted in human connectedness and is best described as “an interactive love letter to the universe.” To see a list of gatherings and viewing parties popping up around the world, click here.

All of the key videos and trailers are below, but before I sign off, I want to say thank you because The Beckoning of Lovely has grown into what it is in large part because of you, the wonderful readers, of Mission Amy KR.

Here’s to each and every Great Perhaps,

amy
