Chicago’s top headlines, piped straight to your earbuds.

Chicago Police arrested 10 people Wednesday night after they blocked traffic protesting an immigration enforcement program. The federal program involves state and local police agencies, and is stirring up controversy.

The program helps federal authorities see if criminal suspects have permission to be in the United States. Immigrant advocates say the program snares too many people who haven’t committed crimes – or minor ones.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced a new foreclosure initiative that relies on community groups to identify abandoned properties. He calls it the Micro-Market Recovery Program. The MacArthur Foundation will provide up to $20 million in loans with the idea of raising millions more from the private sector. The goal is to collect a total pool of $50 million.

On the last day of his Midwestern bus tour, President Barack Obama he visited Alpha and Atkinson in western Illinois, where he called for unity between politicians. “When we’re divided, we end up with a whole lot of self-inflicted problems,” he said at a town hall meeting. He heads back to Washington to start a 10-day vacation.

A court decision regarding the split between four Catholic Charities agencies and Illinois is expected Thursday. Lawyers for the Catholic Charities agencies do not want to sever the relationship between the foster care and adoption provider and the state. Lawyers representing the state argued Catholic Charities’s policy of placing wards of the state only in the care of married couples or single parents violates the state anti-discrimination law which now accommodates couples in civil unions.

The state has ended contracts with Catholic Charities in four cities including Joliet.

Everyone was a loser last night – White Sox fell to Cleveland and the Cubs lost to the Astros.
