1. Into Chicago theater, but not into the “scene”? Get prepared for Theater Wit‘s Chicago Theatre (anti-) Conference, from August 5 to 7. They’re working with the League of Chicago Theaters on presentations about Chicago performing arts organizations of all sizes. Most importantly: there will be a (anti-) Conference Kick-Off mixer with alcohol and food from partners near Theater Wit. They’re still taking suggestions for session leaders, so suggest someone you’d like to  hear talk (or yourself…) and email ctac@theaterwit.org. Registration is $45 ahead of time, $75 onsite but it includes all the food and booze.

2. Missed the Tonys and still dwelling? Read Bob Bullen’s excellent liveblog, during which he chastizes Viola Davis ever so lovingly, explaining that she “looks great, but needs to learn how to stand in that dress. Put your legs together, lady!”

3. Watership Down closes at Lifeline this weekend. The show got generally rave reviews, which is surprising only if you remember it’s about humans dressed as rabbits.

4. Bobby Costanzo performs in Only Kidding! starting this weekend, about the dark side of comedy. You may know Costanzo from “Total Recall,” or that episode of “Friends” where he played Joey’s philandering dad.

5. Dance Center Improvisation Fest started on Sunday, but today there’s an Improvisation Jam in Grant Park at 5:30, and a panel afterwards. The salon is called Ranging Definitions and Curiosities of Improvisation, and includes Nancy Stark Smith, Mike Vargas, Chris Aiken, Angie Hauser, Bebe Miller, The Architects, and Ensemble V.
