The Chicago Field Museum is using modern technology to solve an ancient puzzle.

The puzzle is about a mummy and how it died The body currently rests in seclusion at the Field Museum in a black wooden coffin adorned with images of Gods. JP Brown associate conservator says you can see it through cracks and they hope to learn more about him or her via digital imaging.

BROWN: What we are trying to find out with the x-radiography is to find out some clues about the age and sex of the individual. Maybe any grave goods or anything that is atypical about the way that the body was prepared for mummification and some clues about what they died of.

Brown says that the museum has a long history of x-raying artifacts but the process was laborious and time consuming. He says using digital technology will allow them to x-ray the mummy in about a day without ever opening the coffin.
