Author, political consultant, and social critic Naomi Wolf presents “Citizen Empowerment 101” at Elmhurst College.

In 1991, Wolf galvanized feminists and gained international fame with the publication of The Beauty Myth, an international bestseller that The New York Times described as one of the most important books of the twentieth century. Wolf later was a political consultant to Al Gore during his 2000 presidential campaign, advising the candidate on women’s issues and social policy.

Wolf speaks frequently on gender equality, social justice, and the defense of liberty. She is cofounder of The Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership, an organization that teaches leadership to young women, and The American Freedom Campaign, a nonpartisan citizens alliance whose mission is the defense of the Constitution and its system of checks and balances.

Wolf is a frequent blogger on The Huffington Post and writes cultural commentary for The Guardian, The Washington Post, and Harper’s Bazaar.

The Democracy Forum at Elmhurst College is a series of discussions on the forces that inspire and inhibit our involvement as members of a larger community.

Elmhurst College is a leading liberal arts college located eight miles west of Chicago. The College’s mission is to prepare its students for meaningful and ethical work in a multicultural, global society.
