The Naperville City Council has approved plans for a fertility clinic in the city’s downtown after a lively debate from community members.

Dr. Randy Morris has a fertility consultation office in west suburban Naperville, but fertility procedures have to be done in his office in Chicago. Morris said having one location for all services makes it easier on his patients.

“Patients were always stressed out about having to go downtown and do these things and they’re not going to have to do that anymore. So it’s not just that we’re moving an office. We’re taking stuff that we had to go far for and bring it in closer,” he said.

Some objected to the facility on moral grounds saying embryo selection is wrong.

Council member Bob Feiseler said he voted against the plan because of the design of the building. He said an appointment only facility could potentially deter people from continuing on to the expansion of downtown Naperville. He thinks the space would have been better used for retail.

The clinic is expected to open next year.
