Shawn Rosenblatt is a recent Columbia College graduate who records prodigiously as Netherfriends. It seems he enjoyed college enough to continue giving himself assignments- his most ambitious being to write a song in each of the 50 states.

Back in January, Rosenblatt stopped by our studios and recorded a session for Eight Forty-Eight. We were glad to be able to film his impressive feat of building these complex songs from scratch with just a guitar and a sampler. The entire session should air on Eight Forty-Eight in late July.

For now we’re sharing his performance of “I’m Gonna Start,” a charming indie pop tune full of self-loathing from his 2010 album “Barry and Sherry.”
