Michael Scott takes over as the new president of the Chicago Board of Education just a day before the Board votes on controversial school closings.

This is Scott’s second turn at board president. He was handed the reins by Mayor Richard Daley yesterday and replaces Rufus Williams.

Scott has missed a month’s worth of public hearings on the district’s proposed school closings and consolidations, but said yesterday he won’t delay the vote.

SCOTT: What I said I would do is consult with Rufus, consult with the new superintendent, and most importantly Dr. Watkins, whose office is mostly responsible for making those decisions…I’ll hear what they have to say.

Last night CPS spared six schools from the closure list. Scott will join other board members in voting tomorrow on the rest of the proposed closings.
