The building is the new headquarters for Access Living, an organization that advocates for people with disabilities.

It has slip-resistant flooring for crutches and walkers, desks with extra foot room and an elevator with space for four wheelchairs.

The building also has energy-saving elements like lights with automatic censors, furniture made from recycled material and a green roof.

But Marca Bristo, president of Access Living says she doesn’t want the new office to overshadow her organization’s goals.

BRISTO: This building is only as good as what happens in it. Now that we’ve go these pretty digs, I don’t want any of you to think that we’re going to lose the spunk that got us here in the first place.

Bristo was joined at the ribbon cutting by architects, advocates and city and state officials, including Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.
