Sound Opinions host Jim DeRogatis caught wind of a new law the Chicago city council seems to be fast-tracking. By his estimation it could wreak havoc on the live music scene that thrives in venues like Schubas, the Empty Bottle, the Hideout and Martyr’s. The measure would require promoters to get new licenses, insurance and background checks among other things. It passed the Committee on License and Consumer Protection yesterday and the full Council is set to vote on it on May 14. Get more details and continuing conversation at DeRo’s blog for the Sun-Times.
