The number of naturalized citizens in Illinois has grown fastest in state legislative districts represented by Republicans. That’s the chief finding of a study out today from the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.

Since 2000, naturalized citizens have increased their statewide numbers by 17 percent to almost 690,000, according to the study. The growth has been fastest outside Democratic strongholds like the city of Chicago.
