Eight Forty-Eight

New documentary travels along life's bumpy road with A Tribe Called Quest

The influential rappers A Tribe Called Quest are the subject of a new documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest. The Tribe disbanded some time ago, with short but stressful reunions over the years. To find out if their story adds up to a compelling film - and to discuss Azazel Jacobs' new comedy Terri - Eight Forty-Eight was joined by Christy LeMaster. LeMaster directs the Nightingale Theatre on Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago and writes about film for Cine-File, the weekly guide to alternative cinema; she is also the managing director of IFP Chicago.

Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest is currently playing in Chicago. Terri opens on Friday.
