Some local attorneys are worried that new federal policies on immigration enforcement will hit some communities in Chicago hard. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued two memos this week detailing how it will bulk up immigration enforcement, including hiring thousands more enforcement officers and building more detention facilities. The changes would dramatically expand a policy that allows federal officers to fast-track the deportation of immigrants who’ve been in the U.S. less than two years, without a hearing.
