Chicago officials are rolling out a new Web site today intended to help youth and teens find things to do after school.

A 2006 University of Chicago study found that only about a quarter of Chicago’s kids are involved in a structured afterschool activity.

The new web site maps out 12,000 offerings— in a one-stop shop for schools, parks, libraries, community organizations, and religious groups.

TAPE: A new search, let’s do an address…Click. OK.

Users can search by address or zip code.

A few clicks can lead to a Mariachi Club in Pilsen or Cambodian dance lessons on Lawrence Ave.

The site won’t only help parents—it’s also good for parks and community groups looking to help kids.

It should expose where programming is lacking—where there are too many basketball classes and no art.
