Flickr group member Curtis Locke (aka find a city to live in) is doing a very nice photo study of old news stands around the city. Here are his thoughts on the project:
These small, modest news huts, hand-built and often covered
with asphalt roofing shingles, are curious and yet
overlooked examples of vernacular architecture.
Furthermore, these rather "rustic" sidewalk shacks, or
distribution outposts, serve as an obvious visual metaphor
of the daily news in its death spiral decline.
