Obama: Republicans Corroding Integrity Of Court System

President Barack Obama is worried politics are bleeding into the judicial system.

The president returned to the University of Chicago law school to argue why Republicans should call a vote on his Supreme Court nominee, Judge Merrick Garland.

Some Republicans say the next president should be the one to fill the high court vacancy.

Speaking to a group of law students and faculty, Obama said he wanted to “play out” that situation: Say the GOP won the White House, and they make an appointment.

“The notion that Democrats would then say, oh, well we’ll just go along with that,” Obama said. “That is inconceivable.”

The president says then Democrats could try and hold things up until the next president is elected; and then Republicans could move to block that, and after all that, he says, there wouldn’t be any appointments at all.

And Obama says that would just make people more cynical about their government.
