Chicago police officers are scheduled to give an update later Tuesday about an off-duty officer who was shot last night. Police are not yet releasing the name of the off-duty officer who died until his next of kin is identified.

In a statement, the Chicago Police Department says he was a 15-year veteran of the department who was assigned to the SWAT team. He was found with a gunshot wound in a vehicle in the city’s Wrightwood neighborhood on the far southwest side. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Earlier this year, three Chicago police officers were killed within a two-month span of time. Police are expected to give an update on the investigation at noon Tuesday.
