The O’Hare expansion project cleared its latest legal hurdle Wednesday.

A federal judge denied an emergency motion filed by opponents of the project, who hoped to freeze construction.

Diane Pezanoski is with the city of Chicago’s law department.

""Nothing is standing in the way of acquisitions and construction,"" Pezanoski says. ""We are going forward, and we’re very pleased with that.""

The restraining order was filed in part by St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bensenville. The O’Hare expansion would require the relocation of its 1,300-grave cemetery.

The church argues religious beliefs about the afterlife are being ignored in the name of progress.

Judge David H. Coar denied the motion. He says, ""Simply because there’s an adverse effect does not mean expansion should be halted.""
