On May 5, 1862, Mexican forces claimed victory over the French army occupying Puebla, Mexico.

Today Cinco de Mayo is widely celebrated in Mexico with a focus on food, drink, music and dancing.

Cinco de Mayo has also taken hold in the U.S., a sort of St. Patrick’s Day, except on Cinco de Mayo everyone is Mexican.
