The hairstylist who created the iconic beehive hairdo in 1960 died on Friday at the age of 98.
Margaret Vinci Heldt was a Chicago native, and originally developed the hairstyle for a magazine photoshoot. Heldt had an interest in hairstyling from a very young age, and eventually won national styling championships and had her own Michigan avenue salon.
