Paving season is off to a good start according to Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfeld. There were 30 percent fewer potholes reported this year compared to last due in part to a milder winter.

“Also, thanks to the milder winter, asphalt plants are opening earlier, says Scheinfeld. “And we’re able to get crews out working with hot asphalt sooner in the season.

Scheinfeld says it costs about $1 million to resurface a mile. In 2015, the city paved close to 300 miles of streets, according to CDOT officials.
