The annual Peace on Earth Film Festival kicks off tonight at the Chicago Cultural Center and runs through Sunday, February 26.

Established in 2008, the Chicago-based festival celebrates and encourages the work of independent filmmakers from around the globe.  The screenings vary widely, from documentary shorts to feature-length dramas.

The festival’s co-founder, Nick Angotti, discusses the line-up and the festival’s mission. Also, filmmaker Adam Horowitz tells Worldview about his entry, Nuclear Savage: The Islands of Secret Project 4.1. The documentary chronicles how U.S. nuclear missile tests in the South Pacific exposed the people of the Marshall Islands to massive radiation.

Worldview’s Jerome McDonnell will emcee Opening Night of the Peace On Earth Film Festival, tonight (Thurs. 2/23). Festivities start at 6:30pm. WBEZ is a Media Sponsor of the 2012 Peace on Earth Film Festival.
