Poem Present: Clayton Eshleman

The poet Clayton Eshleman has been translating Cesar Vallejo's poetry since 1958, when he was a student at Indiana University. Clayton Eshleman apprenticed himself to poetry while in Kyoto, Japan, in the early 1960s, by committing to a translation Cesar Vallejo's European-based Poemas humanos. He received the National Book Award in 1979 and the Landon Translation Prize from the Academy of American Poets in 2002 for various Vallejo translations.  Recorded as part of the Poem Present series. © 2007, The University of Chicago
