Police to Crack Down on Curfew Violators for Spring Break

Superintendent Jody Weis is ordering officers to stop kids who are out past curfew and usher them home. According to Weis, at least six children have been shot after curfew so far this year. He called on parents to help police.

WEIS: Do you know where your children are? That's a question every parent, every guardian, every adult needs to be asking.

Police staffing levels won't change, but Weis says officers will target gang hotspots and patrol parks.

Schools chief Ron Huberman is encouraging students to attend park, library, and museum programs over break. The district is offering special programming at four high schools in high-crime neighborhoods.

Thirty-one CPS students have died from violence this school year, including one who was shot Thursday, just hours after Weis and Huberman made their statements.
