By Susie AnThe Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has issued an air pollution “action day” alert for the Chicago area. Pollution levels are expected to be elevated today as humidity and temperatures rise.
Kim Biggs is the chair for Partners for Clean Air. She says high levels of pollution can impact people with respiratory problems, but healthy people could experience symptoms, too.
“We do actually include active children and adults in the category for ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups.’ Individuals who are going to be spending an extended period of time outdoors on action days would be considered to be in that group,” she said.
The action day calls for people to limit their energy use and cut down on time outside. It’s the fourth alert issued for the Chicago area this year.
