There are indications that a man charged with trying to put a bomb in a busy Chicago neighborhood may plead guilty.

Sami Samir Hassoun, known as the Wrigleyville bomber, gave some bizarre and revolving reasons for wanting to plant a bomb in a neighborhood on Chicago’s north side. In September of last year undercover agents gave Hassoun a fake bomb and Hassoun put it in a garbage can on a busy street near Wrigley Field.

In a hearing Thursday, prosecutors told a federal judge that they’ve discussed a possible plea deal, though they didn’t elaborate further. It likely means that Hassoun is considering pleading guilty to the charges. Prosecutors said they have audio and video recordings and they said Hassoun wanted to place the bomb in a busy place to maximize damage. Despite the apparent negotiations, a tentative trial date has been set for February.
