Bede Sheppard is a senior researcher for Asia in the Children’s Rights Division of Human Rights Watch. He specializes in attacks on schools and teachers; the occupation of schools by security forces; and child domestic workers. He co-authored the report, “Schools as Battlegrounds: Protecting Students, Teachers, and Schools from Attack.” Bede also produced a report on the killing of numerous teachers and other education personnel by suspected militants between January 2008 and last October in the Pakistani province of Balochistan. He shares his stories about these underreported casualties of war.
