Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is calling for an investigation into the use of all state vehicles. That’s after the son of a top state Democrat was pulled over for drunk driving in a state-licensed SUV.

Given the state’s fiscal crisis, Quinn says there’s no better time to audit the use of state vehicles.

That’s been a hot topic since the son of Senate President John Cullerton was arrested on DUI charges over the weekend. A spokeswoman says he was driving a state-licensed SUV, without his father’s knowledge.

Quinn says that’s unacceptable, and he wants the legislature to review the use of its fleet.

QUINN: I feel strongly about it, and I’m in a position, I think, to push members of the legislature to look at their own house, straighten that out, and if they need a little help, I’ll give ‘em that help.

Cullerton’s spokeswoman says the State Senate has six official vehicles that are shared by senators. And the office is looking into whether all of six are necessary.

In the meantime, she says state cars will no longer be parked at Cullerton’s home.
