Trustees for the University of Illinois Wednesday are scheduled to vote on a tuition hike. Tuition would go up 6.9 percent for students starting this fall.

Gov. Pat Quinn isn’t saying if he endorses the move.

“The trustees came to that number. I’m sure they followed their conscience on that. Obviously, we want to make sure that we want to make college affordable in Illinois, not only University of Illinois but  other state universities and community colleges.”

A U of I spokesperson says the proposal keeps in mind the concerns of families and the financial needs of the school. The board last year raised tuition 9.5 percent.
